FAN Yun is a member of the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the Democratic Progressive Party, DPP, since 2020. Previously she was an Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology, National Taiwan University, where she completed an MA, and served as Ambassador-at-Large of Taiwan. She holds a PhD in sociology from Yale University in the United States. Her research interests include social movements, civil society and gender politics. Among other things, FAN participated in the Wild Lily student’s movement for democracy in 1990 and in the 2014 Sunflower movement protesting a trade pact with the People’s Republic of China. She joined Democracy Without Borders as an advisor in 2022 and made the following statement on this occasion: “As a legislator of Taiwan and pro-democracy activist I’m pleased to join Democracy Without Borders. I share the vision of a democratic global parliament and equal global citizenship. Those who believe in democracy need to collaborate closely to make this vision a reality and to defend freedom and human rights against their adversaries.”
