We want the United Nations to be an inclusive, democratic, representative and effective organization. We support reforms that enable the UN to fulfill its mandate in the best interest of humanity. We endorse a process of stocktaking, reform and transformation that eventually leads to a review of the UN’s charter and a world organization of the third generation. We collaborate with the UN 2020 Civil Society Initiative and the Center for UN Constitutional Research.
ON OUR BLOG AS A CROSS-CUTTING TOPIC
As human beings, all people are global citizens who have rights and responsibilities with regard to the global community. We endorse the notion of a democratic world order that is based on an equal global citizenship of all people. We support a planetary and cosmic world view that allows individuals to understand their close connection to the planet and all of humanity and to develop a sense of global identity and solidarity.
Democratic representation, participation and deliberation as well as fundamental human rights and the protection of minorities are indispensable for any legitimate form of government. We support the right to democracy from the local to the global level and efforts to protect civil society from authoritarian interference. As democracy is under stress we endorse the Civic Charter as well as the Coalition for Democratic Renewal that is committed to a revitalization of the democratic idea and to confront the opponents of democracy.
We promote federalism, subsidiarity, rule of law, democracy and the seperation of powers as key principles of government. We support an integrated approach that looks at all levels of government but focus on the regional and global scale. We endorse a federalist integration of the world’s regions as a step towards the long-term goal of a democratic world federation. For this purpose we participate in the World Federalist Movement.
