Global Call to Action Against Poverty in collaboration with numerous civil society organizations, among them Democracy Without Borders, is hosting a virtual Global People’s Assembly in 2022.
The assembly will be a space for all participants to review the structural reasons for social, environment and economic inequalities and injustices during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond, to plan and develop collaborative actions in order to prevent austerity and to create systemic change that will achieve the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.
We wish to highlight the opening plenary on Tuesday 20th and the agenda item following immediately afterwards titled “Introduction to the Declaration Process” as well as the session “We The Peoples: Proposals for a more democratic UN” on Wednesday 21st.
This latter session, more details here, will introduce the We The Peoples campaign for inclusive global governance and its three proposals for inclusive global governance – a UN World Citizens’ Initiative, a UN Parliamentary Assembly and a UN Civil Society Envoy. The focus of the session will be to identify and discuss action that includes broadening civil society engagement, mobilising popular support and ways to engage Members of Parliament.
