Electoral Reform: Democratic principles and global practice

19–21 Mar 2025

Electoral Integrity Project/Westminster Foundation
Online

The Electoral Integrity Workshop addresses the challenges of improving election quality amid global democratic backsliding. It will explore principles for democratic electoral reform, barriers to transparency and inclusivity, strategies for maintaining public trust, and case studies of successful and flawed reforms. The aim is to identify obstacles and policy solutions for fair, transparent, and democratic electoral reforms.

The workshop will consider following themes and questions:

  • What principles should underpin the electoral reform process?

  • What are the barriers to ensuring that the electoral reform process is democratic, inclusive, transparent and consensus oriented?

  • How can public trust be maintained?

  • What interventions can be adopted to help to ensure ‘good’ electoral reform?

  • Case studies of electoral reforms where the electoral process was strengthened / undermined.
